This home was designed for a single professional, who spends the majority of his time living alone, except for when he has part-time custody of his daughter. He wanted his daughter to have her own separate space, rather than a guest room. However, he also wanted her “wing” to be able to be re-used or closed off when she was not there. Therefore, the house is designed along circulation datum, with living/sleeping spaces plugged into it. Each section of the house is separated by a courtyard filled with natural grass and wildflowers. The materials and forms are very simple and raw, but rich in character, paying homage to the site as well as the owner. The low maintenance corten wraps the whole house, like a tube, unifying the detached and programmatic zones of the house.
