The Grove at GPAC

Nestled within the canopy of old growth trees, The Grove offers an outdoor performance venue adjacent to the existing Germantown Performing Arts Center (GPAC). Site sensitive architecture, hardscape, landscape, and lighting work together to elevate the experiences of patrons, performers, and supporting participants. This use of green space adjacent to street access accommodates up to 1200 patrons and increases walkability and connectivity to the Germantown community.

The park is an open-air expression of GPAC’s interior experiences. The complex consists of a performance pavilion, welcome and food truck plazas, the open grove, balcony pavilion, food and beverage pavilion and bridge pavilion connecting The Grove entrance to the existing GPAC lobby. The pavilions are variations of a simple palette of natural materials with stained cedar enclosures set beneath cross-laminated timber canopies held on steel frames. A cedar and steel screen defines the perimeter of the venue, while allowing sound, views and breezes to roam freely. The Grove is the only intimate outdoor performance venue in the region that can relocate a performance to an adjacent indoor performance theatre due to inclement weather.
