Christ Community Clinic - Broad Avenue
The Christ Community Medical Center on Broad Avenue is a 10,000 square foot specialty healthcare clinic prototype with a design/build approach on a limited budget.
The new medical freestanding clinic for the nonprofit client expresses the desire to improve the surrounding neighborhood with an inviting healing image. The building uses a straightforward plan that features a sensitive touch of color, material and form to enhance the healing environment.

The project, located within an economically depressed neighborhood, supports the client’s goal to create a new and positive image for a community clinic which serves the underprivileged. The project is located on a major commercial street that is composed of light industrial buildings, churches and apartments. The building’s simple box form uses concrete block and corrugated metal siding in response to its context. The building is organized by means of a large blue wall running the length of the building. This form houses utilitarian functions and crests parallel circulation paths serving both patients and staff. External windows were limited due to urban and security constraints. Therefore, the ceiling areas were composed of acrylic panels and are lit from above to create a sense of space and clouds above. A skylight is located above the nurses’ station to provide natural light and serve as an orientation feature for the entire clinic.
