Collage Dance hopes to build studio at Tillman, Sam Cooper

Collage Dance Collective, the ballet company that moved to Memphis from New York City in 2007, plans to build new offices and performance space at Tillman and Sam Cooper.

“What is driving this is we need more space,” said Marcellus Harper, executive director. “We lease a little over 2,000 square feet where we are now. We serve 225 kids in that space on a weekly basis and another 200 through program installations with various partners, including schools and local studios.

Collage has hired archimania to create plans for a one-story building at 501 Tillman St., on the southwest corner of Tillman and Sam Cooper. The site is directly across Tillman from the Save A Lot grocery and related development designed to form the gateway to Binghampton.

Construction of the 22,500-square-foot building could start as early as August, according to the document.
