Redefining the outdated image of a twenty-five-year-old investment banking firm located on the 26th floor of a mid-century building.

The new open office environment provides employees with access to views and natural light from all workspaces. Three large scale breaks were created between existing perimeter offices, allowing natural light to penetrate into the space. One of these breaks provides a dramatic panoramic view of the city and filtered north light for the main public space, which includes the reception area and an informal meeting space. By utilizing floor to ceiling glazing, the other two breaks occur in the corner offices, turning what are typically the most private offices into the two most open offices on the floor. The dropped ceiling was removed in certain locations to raise ceiling heights and expose the raw concrete structure above. To further reduce the scale of the space, a walnut portal in each perimeter office provides smaller scale openings which articulate the subtly textured office walls and provides a visual connection from the offices to the adjacent public spaces. These smaller openings also allow natural light to filter into the inner core of the office through the perimeter offices, thus creating a more open space.
