DOGone

The DOGone project was designed for an animal rescue charity event. The design was based on three simple rules: it had to be efficient, durable, and attractive.  The concept originated with a matchbox, with an outer layer and inner box. Forming the outer wrapper is a sign ¼ inch sheet of steel folded repeatedly to take on the profile of the typical gable-roofed doghouse. The steel wraps an inner box of stained wood elevating it above the ground. The steel sheet protects from the elements, while the wooden box offers a softer lining that permits the passage of breezes between its many slats. The highly reflective finish of the steel is important because it reflects sunlight and minimizes heat gain in warmer temperatures, while also serving as a durable finish. The simple design creates an efficient, durable doghouse with attractive and clean modern lines.
