A Love Letter

From the first morning light, Civitas emerges on the banks of the Mississippi River enveloped in the rhythm of light and shadow. The boundary between home and nature dissolves, welcoming in breezes off the water and the sounds of a community awakening. One of the greenest homes in the world, Civitas embraces modern living and community connectivity as the answer to climate change. This is our love letter to the planet, and the community in which our work emerges.

Getting to Zero

Arising from a family’s desire to create a meaningful experience with each other and the neighborhood, Civitas offers a new perspective on how a home can benefit the many. Members of the design team explore sustainability and resiliency goals for the project such as conservation and reclamation, climate resiliency, onsite renewables, wellness and health, change and adaptability. Civitas is the world’s first dual certified Zero Energy and Zero Carbon building by the International Living Future Institute; has an EUI of -2.6; is certified LEED v4.1 Homes Platinum; and was recognized with the AIA 2021 COTE Top Ten distinction.
