Memphis Merit Academy
Memphis Merit Academy, currently under construction, required a new space to accommodate a growing student body and expanded programming. Currently serving k-4th grade, the school will add a 5th grade upon opening.
The new facility is designed for growth and adaptability, supporting the client’s goal of educating up through 8th grade in the future. With the new location, in a former Kroger on American Way, the design team was able to achieve key goals of the project: a larger more flexible school layout, a safe playground space, a separate assembly space in addition to a cafeteria, and a school design that better reflects Memphis Merit Academy and their brand.
Further, the client purchased the entire shopping center, in which the Kroger space was a part, to grow into a hub by engaging tenants that provide resources needed in the community. It also offers the option to further expand the school at some later date.
