Developing a vision and standards for how Shelby Farms Park would integrate sustainability strategies in future buildings, structures, infrastructure and operational procedures.

As part of the Master Plan of Shelby Farms, archimania researched and developed the Design and Sustainability Guidelines for future expansion. The Design and Sustainability Guidelines embrace and accommodate sustainability as a lifestyle. The architecture and its environmental performance coalesce to the point where one cannot be discerned from another. Passive and active systems were implemented within the larger framework of the design, working together to relieve loading on the other. Neither the boathouse nor the lake pavilion support sustainable attachments to the architecture, but rather the integration of sustainable ideals and aspects into the architecture. Looking beyond the buildings themselves and examining issues with a more far-reaching impact, such aspects included site sustainability, water conservation, energy conservation, and resource responsibility. More immediate to the buildings are sustainable aspects such as indoor environmental quality and efficient operational procedures. Implementation of these various concepts can take many forms, so long as those forms are fully integrated and reinforce the sustainable ideals of the park.
