An abandoned section of the historic Union Railroad rail loop around Memphis, this slim 648 foot long, 64,000 sf portion of vacant land adjacent to Spanish War Memorial Park is being transformed into a naturalistic connector for Memphis Parks and the Cooper-Young neighborhood. Spanish War Memorial Park sits at the corner of 2 busy intersections with no internal connection to the community; the Greenway will allow the residential neighborhood to access Spanish War Memorial Park in a healthy and safe way. The plan utilizes a series of stops along the Greenway path to reflect the rail history of the property and include all native plantings, benches, drinking fountains, and a small decomposed granite activity space to offer useful and healthy activity to the residents of the area and visitors alike.

Re-envisioning a community asset for Cooper-Young and surrounding neighborhoods by transforming an abandoned railroad line property into a Greenway for neighborhood access to the public park.
