The facility reflects decades of dedication to creating opportunities for girls as part of Girls Inc. of Memphis’ larger program outreach. Since 1946, Girls Inc. of Memphis has been empowering girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Administration and programming spaces are housed in separate buildings connected by one roof and divided by dog trots. These shaded spaces provide refuge from the summer heat, create views through the building, and promote a sense of unity while allowing specific activities to flourish independently. The use of Girls Inc.’s branding color, red, acts as a visual ribbon throughout the space, creating a sense of connection and continuity. The expanded programming in the new buildings include classrooms, a teaching kitchen, a multi-purpose space, and an office space for their Memphis headquarters. The farm will continue to evolve, becoming a place for participants, staff, farmers, and the community to come together, learn from one another, and grow together. The project not only meets the practical needs of the client but also reflects their mission to empower girls and foster community engagement.
