The Youth Farm is a thriving hub for youth development, community engagement, and sustainable agriculture and reflects decades of dedication to creating opportunities for girls to grow, lead, and make a difference in their communities.

Planning goals sought to expand programming on the existing 9.5 acre farm, which previously utilized two shipping containers for storage. The project incorporates new administration and programming spaces, farmstand, community garden, and an outdoor stage - all to engage the community and surrounding neighborhood with a valuable resource for healthy food, education and a place to gather for the surrounding neighborhood. Crop production was expanded from 2 acres to 6 acres allowing for more opportunities to grow fresh produce and strengthen connections to the land. archimania’s third project and site for the client, the Youth Farm serves as a space where girls can cultivate leadership skills, learn about sustainable farming, and connect with their community.

  • The facility reflects decades of dedication to creating opportunities for girls as part of Girls Inc. of Memphis’ larger program outreach. Since 1946, Girls Inc. of Memphis has been empowering girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Administration and programming spaces are housed in separate buildings connected by one roof and divided by dog trots. These shaded spaces provide refuge from the summer heat, create views through the building, and promote a sense of unity while allowing specific activities to flourish independently. The use of Girls Inc.’s branding color, red, acts as a visual ribbon throughout the space, creating a sense of connection and continuity. The expanded programming in the new buildings include classrooms, a teaching kitchen, a multi-purpose space, and an office space for their Memphis headquarters. The farm will continue to evolve, becoming a place for participants, staff, farmers, and the community to come together, learn from one another, and grow together. The project not only meets the practical needs of the client but also reflects their mission to empower girls and foster community engagement.
